A Bedtime Skincare Story

Leonardo da Vinci is quoted as saying “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” so in these strange times, as the evenings start to draw in and the temperature drops, simple routines are more important than ever to keep us sane: stocking the log basket, lighting some candles, dusting off the slow cooker and slotting in an autumn walk into our daily lives. Taking pleasure in the small things and most importantly taking the time to enjoy the simple pleasures around us.

So, with that in mind, here at Wild Beauty our thoughts have turned to evening skincare routines.  Did you know that your skin repairs itself while you sleep? Skin is the largest organ in the human body and at night, blood flow to the skin surface increases as the cells rebuild collagen and repair damage caused by daily UV exposure, pollution and other aggressors.

Prologue

A good evening routine starts with a thorough skin cleanse, this is a good time to take a moment to massage your face, neck and décolleté to remove all traces of pollution and daily dirt and grime – facial massage is great for improving circulation to the skin surface and removing toxins so take your time! Chapter 1

An often-forgotten step in skincare is the application of a toner, or in our case, a tonic.  Not only a wonderfully refreshing step in any skincare routine, but one that can help with hydration and prepping the skin for the next step. Rebalancing Skin Tonic with Wild Foraged Meadowsweet

Chapter 2

A serum is key to an effective skincare routine, and is designed to deliver high concentrations of active ingredients to the skin.  Our Active Treatment Serum with Hyaluronic Acid is packed with hydrating squalene and organic oat milk, as well as vitamins and naturally foraged ingredients such as Herb Robert and Yarrow to soothe skin and promote cell turnover.  Gently pat into skin, around the face and jawline, not forgetting the neck and décolleté area.

Chapter 3

We asked friend of the brand and wellbeing expert Jo Fellows if she had any tips to prep for a good nights’ sleep and she recommended facial acupressure: studies show that this can reduce symptoms of anxiety and improve sleep. 

Jo says “There are several acupressure points that can be used on the face, but the most important one for relaxation and sleep is said to be Yin Tang. It’s situated at the third eye point, above the nose and between the eyebrows.  To activate Yin Tang, start by applying very gentle pressure with one (or two) finger tips to the area for 30 seconds. Then gently massage back and forwards for up to a couple of minutes”

Chapter 4

One of the final steps in our night-time routine is the Restorative Overnight Cream with Evening Primrose.  Use a few pumps and rub between your hands and apply to face, neck and décolleté and massage in until completely absorbed. 

Chapter 5

Last but not least, dot the Nourishing Eye Cream with Elderflower around the eyes, this contains vitamin A rich organic oils which will plump and firm the eye area and work on fine lines and wrinkles (top tip! can also be used around the mouth too) and gently tap in until absorbed.

Epilogue

It is important to take time in between each stage of your skincare routine if you can, to let each product sink into the skin and do its job. We are extremely proud of the natural fragrances of our skincare products so enjoy the scent of each product as you apply it and relish the texture.
