Jo Fellows Wild Beauty Q&A

What is your earliest beauty memory?

My earliest beauty memory is of a little gold powder compact that my mother used to keep in her handbag. The lid was enamelled with a pretty country scene, and inside it had a mirror on one side and a place for the powder on the other. Before she went out, she would pull out the compact and use the little pad that came with it to brush some of the power over her face to help enhance her completionIt had a very distinct, sort of talcum powdery fragrance. I can see her using it now – and, rather comically, instead of moving the mirror around, she would always move her face around to make sure it looked flawless! My grandmother had bought the compact for my mum, and had it filled with a luxury face powder, way back when she first started to date my dadSo it may be a very early memory, although she kept the compact for many years!

What is your beauty routine?

I like to keep my beauty routine very simple. I keep my skin well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water and herbal teas, try to get eight hours sleep each night and eat fresh, organic food whenever possible.

I like to wash my face with water in the shower in the morning, and then always apply moisturise. My favourite nourishing products to use are from the Rhug Estate Wild Beauty range.

After my morning shower, like to massage (and moisturise) my body with the Wild Beauty Nourishing Body Cream. I love the way its balancing blend of essential oils deeply hydrates and nourishes my skin.

On my face, I apply the Active Treatment Serum with Hyaluronic Acid to firm and replenish my skin and stimulate collagen production. Then I gently massage in a little of the Protecting Day Cream to hydrate my skin and to protect it against modern pollution and environmental stressors.

My lips tend to get a little dry, especially in winter, so always I keep a little jar of Moisturising Lip Treatment with Rhug Beeswax in my pocket to have it handy to use as required throughout the day. It’s packed with vitamin A and really helps improve hydration.

Before I go to sleep, I use the Wild Beauty Restorative Overnight Cream. This night cream contains Organic Evening Primrose Oil which helps to improve my skin’s elasticity and hydrates while improving cell turnover while I sleep.

Once a week I like to use the Exfoliating Body Scrub in the shower to soften my skin. The fragrance is wonderful!

What do you love most about Wild Beauty and why?

I love Wild Beauty because it’s authentic – and not just fabricated by some international marketing department somewhere. The range is natural, organic and sustainably sourced and has been produced by a team that really cares about what it is doing to both the environment and my skin. And the results speak for themselves – it’s a real treat for my skin.

What does organic beauty mean to you?

Organic Beauty is the formulation of cosmetic products using organically farmed ingredients that nourish my skin as well as the planet.

How important is a healthy lifestyle to you and what do you do to achieve this?

A healthy lifestyle is very important to me. As an Advanced Yoga Teacher, Meditation Teacher, Sound Therapist and Reiki Master/Teacher I’m very well aware of how an unhealthy lifestyle can affect our mind, body and spirit. It is important to me that in everything I do, as much as I can, I am honouring the planet that supports me.

I eat organic, local and in-season foods as much as possible, drink plenty of water, go for a walk outside every day, as well as taking regular mindful yoga classes.

How do you find balance in your life?

I’m lucky to be a yoga teacher – and there are amazing benefits of practicing yoga. It helps you to be balanced, flexible, be calm, focus on inner peace and tranquillity. I teach Hatha yoga which works with the muscles for strength and flexibility and Yin Yoga which works on the ‘plastic’ tissues – the fascia, bone endings, tendons and ligaments. I also teach Reiki and meditation which has so many benefits for our wellbeing.

I’m very lucky too to live in the countryside, in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and I find it very beneficial to get outside, taking daily walks from my front door through the hills or to my local woods.

My body tells me when I’ve been doing too much, and, when this happens, I like to take a lovely warm bath, light some candles and just rest.

What is your wild beauty escape?

I love to be beside the sea. This March just before lockdown, we were lucky enough to go to Cornwall, west of St Ives at Bosigran, in a little converted barn on a farm, overlooking the sea. We were so lucky with the weather – it was cold but we had beautiful blue skies all week – and it was so lovely to walk out straight from the barn along the coastal path, with spectacular views, and because we were early in the season, we hardly saw a soul! We walked over the hills and discovered ancient sites and old tin mines too. Just bliss.

What 3 things would you take with you on that escape?

I would take my husband, Simon, warm clothes and sunshine!
