What is Bakuchiol?
Posted by TEAM WILD BEAUTY
We recently launched the Protecting Facial Oil with Bakuchiol, but what is bakuchiol and why did we want to include it in our new skin saviour?
What is bakuchiol?
Sourced from the seeds of the Psoralea corylifolia plant, bakuchiol is a natural, vegan, plant derived skincare ingredients. It has been used in Ayurveda and Eastern medicine for hundreds of years. According to Glimpse*, interest in bakuchiol grew 31% over past year, compared to the year before.
Why is it good for the skin?
Rich in antioxidants, which help fight skin damaging free radicals, it can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as evening skin tone. It's also an anti-inflammatory with soothing properties, and is suitable for use by all skin types.
A natural retinol alternative
Retinol is a vitamin-A based chemical that helps improve skin cell turnover and stimulate collagen synthesis for skin that looks smoother and more radiant. The downside of retinols is that they may sometimes cause redness and dryness. Bakuchiol has a similar action on the skin to retinol as it can help stimulate collagen producing receptors in the skin. However, it is gentler and therefore better suited for more sensitive skin types or for anyone who is nervous about using retinols.
How should I use the Protecting Facial Oil with Bakuchiol?
After cleansing and moisturising skin, gently massage a few drops of the facial oil onto the face, neck and décolleté, avoiding the eye area. Take time to inhale the natural uplifting scent. The Protecting Facial Oil can be used day and/or night.
