Q&a With Amy Coleman, General Manager Of Rhug Limited And Rhug Wild Beauty
Posted by TEAM WILD BEAUTY
HERE AT WILD BEAUTY AND RHUG ESTATE, WE ARE GREAT CHAMPIONS OF OUR TEAM, WITHOUT THEM, NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN! WE THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO GET TO KNOW THEM A LITTLE BIT BETTER, TO UNDERSTAND WHO IS BEHIND THE PRODUCTS BECAUSE WE LIKE TO BE TRANSPARENT IN EVERYTHING WE DO….
WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST BEAUTY MEMORY?
It would probably be sneaking into my mums dressing room and covering myself in any makeup I could get my hands on… purple eyeshadow, bright pink blush and mascara that covered most of my face! From that moment on I was always obsessed with makeup, and as I grew older I spent hours watching YouTube videos and following bloggers on social media. It was from this point that I began to learn the importance of skincare and caring for my skin… as the quality of the makeup starts from the base!
WHAT IS YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE?
I have a pretty busy lifestyle so I like to keep my beauty routine simple but effective.
When I am working, I tend to wear more makeup than I would at weekends, so as soon as I get home I like to remove it straight away. I use a special eye make up remover first, followed by a cleansing cream for the rest of my face (I prefer a cream as I suffer with dull, dry skin and I feel these always brighten and moisturise the best) am obsessed with a the Rhug Wild Beauty cleansing cream which includes dandelion which is wild foraged on the estate! Next, I use a reusable cotton pad and sweep over some Wild Beauty tonic, which is super refreshing and then follow with the night cream and facial oil. I am lucky enough to try the new Wild Beauty product launches coming up in advance, so watch this space as there are some fabulous things in the pipeline!
In the morning I keep my skincare very simple and use a splash of tonic again followed by the Wild Beauty day cream. I try not to over cleanse my sensitive skin as I find it dries it out too much.
On my days off I don’t wear makeup, allowing my skin to breathe properly and at least once a week I will exfoliate my skin and follow with a replenishing mask – the Wild Beauty mask is unbelievable at giving me a glow and helping my skin feel moisturised and radiant.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WILD BEAUTY AND WHY?
My favourite part of Wild Beauty is the quality of the ingredients used in the products and knowing exactly where they come from. The story behind the products is like no other and not only that but having used the products for over 12 months now I can confidently say that they are also incredibly effective. Those that contain honey have been particularly effective for me and my dry/dull skin. I work on the Estate and live nearby, so I am lucky enough to be immersed in the beautiful countryside of North Wales every day and to be able to use a skincare range that incorporates that is a dream for me.
WHAT DOES ORGANIC BEAUTY MEAN TO YOU?
I was once told that up to 70% of what you put on your skin can get absorbed into your body – so choosing the most natural, healthiest products is essential. You wouldn’t eat all those chemicals and toxins so why put them on your face!? Having something organically certified gives you the reassurance that it is only the safest, most natural ingredients that you are using and putting into your body. With the increase in green-washing in the cosmetics industry, I think it is so important that people do their research into what they are buying but more importantly, it is up to brands to produce the best products that they can and to respect the environment that we live in and be as sustainable as possible.
DO YOU HAVE ANY SKINCARE CONCERNS THAT THE WILD BEAUTY COLLECTION HAS ADDRESSED?
I have always suffered with dull, dry and lacklustre skin and several of the Wild Beauty products contain honey from the Estate which has done wonders for my skin. Particularly the replenishing facial mask and body scrub which have had results like no other product I have ever tried! But overall the entire range has improved my skin condition for sure.
HOW IMPORTANT IS A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE TO YOU AND WHAT DO YOU DO TO ACHIEVE IT?
I’m a very strong believer in a healthy lifestyle. I try to be as active as possible; I live in a beautiful part of the world so am luck to be able to walk the dog 3 times a day in wonderful countryside and go for long walks on my days off. I also compete at Novice level in British eventing, so it is important I keep my horses fit and well trained, so this involves riding at least 4/5 times a week and competing at the weekends.
I try to eat a balanced diet, planning meals ahead, but I have to be honest and say I enjoy nothing more than eating out at least once a week, not to mention a chocolate bar a day however I know I am active enough to get away with it (at the minute anyway!).
Aside from exercise and food, I’ve also grown to become a big believer in having a better work life balance and taking time out to relax. I’ve found the best way to achieve this is by planning ahead and making sure I get some time off in the diary and sticking to it, whether it is my work calendar or my life calendar!! Healthy mind, healthy body.
DID YOU LEARN ANY BEAUTY SECRETS OR TIPS FROM YOUR MOTHER?
Yes I did, and by far the most valuable beauty secret out there… NEVER GO TO BED WITH YOUR MAKEUP ON!!!
These days I couldn’t think of anything worse…but rewind 10 years at University after a night out…different story!
RHUG ESTATE PUTS SUSTAINABILITY AT THE FOREFRONT OF EVERYTHING IT DOES – HOW DO YOU INCORPORATE IT INTO YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE?
I recycle as much as possible and re use wherever I can, and I have more recently started to buy second hand clothes to reduce the impact of “fast fashion”. Whenever I purchase a product, whether it be food, skincare, clothing or something else, I will always try to opt for the most sustainable option.
HOW DO YOU ACHIEVE BALANCE IN YOUR LIFE?
I am a country girl through and through and when I am not working, riding, or walking I like to go out with friends and eat lots of great food (and drink lots of great gin!). I also like to travel and see new places, try new things and get involved with anything sporty. A few years ago I managed to finish the worlds biggest obstacle course, running 20 miles with over 200 obstacles…it was great fun!!
WHAT IS YOUR WILD BEAUTY ESCAPE?
I was lucky enough to live in the South of France for several years when I was younger, so for me it would have to be beautiful Provence where we spent many family holidays, or more recent escapes to Split in Croatia, and all the islands surrounding which are out of this world. Although you can’t beat riding in the beautiful Welsh countryside either!!
