The Benefits Of Omega Oils In Skincare

Active Treatment Serum With Hyaluronic Acid – Rhug Wild Beauty

What Are Omega fatty acids?

Omega oils or Omega Fatty Acids as they are also known, are essential nutrients that are often associated with internal health and wellbeing. Known for their positive effects on brain development and function as well as memory, heart health, cholesterol, as well as powerful anti-inflammatory benefits, omega oils can be found in many gut-positive foods, such as nuts and seeds as well as oily seafood and soya beans.

Where are Omega fatty acids found?

There are three main omega oils: Omega 3, 6 and 9. Each has individual benefits that promote health: Omega 3 is the most common of the oils and is found in fish, nuts and seeds, and supports normal vision, brain and heart function. Omega 6 is found in vegetable oils such as sunflower and safflower oils, as well as corn, meat, poultry, fish and eggs – and helps stimulate skin and hair growth, as well as maintain bone health – both 3 & 6 are considered essential fats as they cannot be naturally produced by the body and must come from a healthy diet or supplements. Omega 9 can be produced by the body, so it’s not considered essential, but they are found in foods such as olive oil, almond oil, walnuts, fish and avocados and benefits include reducing the risk of heart disease and decreasing levels of bad (LDL) cholesterol levels.

Are Omega Oils Good for Skin?

Results on the benefits of omega oils on overall health mean that we have seen them creep into skincare formulations over the years. Omega 3s particularly have a beneficial effect on skin barrier function, sealing in moisture and keeping out irritants and maintaining the strength and health of the outer layer of our skin. Omega 3 & 6 have anti-inflammatory benefits, calming and soothing skin and can be found in rosehip oil and sacha inchi oil which are also beneficial in reducing fine lines and wrinkles. You can find these oils in the Wild Beauty Nourishing Eye Cream with Elderflower and our Restorative Overnight Cream with Evening Primrose.
